Dark matter self-interactions and light force carriers

چکیده
Recent observations from PAMELA, FERMI, and ATIC point to a new source of high energy cosmic rays. If these signals are due to annihilating dark matter (DM), the annihilation cross section in the present day must be substantially larger than that necessary for thermal freeze-out in the early universe. A new force, mediated by a particle of mass Oð100 MeVÞ, leading to a velocity-dependent annihilation cross section—a ‘‘Sommerfeld enhancement’’—has been proposed as a possible explanation. We point out that such models necessarily increase the DM self-scattering cross section, and use observational bounds on the amount of DM-DM scattering allowed in various astrophysical systems to place constraints on the mass and couplings of the light mediator.

Resonant dark forces and small-scale structure.
A dark force can impact the cosmological history of dark matter (DM), both explaining observed cores in dwarf galaxies and setting the DM relic density through annihilation to dark force bosons. For GeV-TeV DM mass, DM self-scattering in dwarf galaxy halos exhibits quantum mechanical resonances, analogous to a Sommerfeld enhancement for annihilation. We show that a simple model of DM with a dar...
متن کاملLong-range interactions between dark-matter particles in a model with a cosmological, spontaneously-broken chiral symmetry
In a cosmological model with a chiral symmetry, there are two, dynamicallyrelated spin-zero fields, a scalar φ and a pseudoscalar b. These fields have self-interactions. Spontaneous symmetry breaking results in a very massive scalar particle with mφ ∼= 5×1011 GeV, and a nearly massless, (Goldstonelike) pseudoscalar particle with 0 < mb < ∼ 2.7×10−6 eV. One or both particles can be part of dark ...
متن کاملQuantum modeling of light absorption in graphene based photo-transistors
Graphene based optical devices are highly recommended and interested for integrated optical circuits. As a main component of an optical link, a photodetector based on graphene nano-ribbons is proposed and studied. A quantum transport model is presented for simulation of a graphene nano-ribbon (GNR) -based photo-transistor based on non-equilibrium Green’s function method. In the proposed model a...
متن کاملDirect Detection of Multi-component Secluded WIMPs
Dark matter candidates comprising several sub-states separated by a small mass gap ∆m, and coupled to the Standard Model by (sub-)GeV force carriers, can exhibit nontrivial scattering interactions in direct detection experiments. We analyze the secluded U(1)S-mediated WIMP scenario, and calculate the elastic and inelastic cross sections for multi-component WIMP scattering off nuclei. We find th...
متن کاملSIMP dark matter with gauged Z 3 symmetry
We consider a complex scalar field as SIMP dark matter in models with gauged Z3 discrete symmetry appearing as a remnant of dark local U(1). Dark matter (DM) annihilates dominantly by the 3-to-2 scattering, due to the DM cubic coupling in combination with the DM quartic coupling or the Z ′ gauge and dark Higgs couplings. We show that a light Z ′ gauge boson makes DM in kinetic equilibrium with ...
